After my visa was declined semi-recently, I’ve been thinking a lot and doing “soul searching” as they say. I don’t want to write about my plans too much after this post as I did that regarding the Pacific Crest Trail and it was sort of for nothing (I will come back to the Pacific Crest Trail hike one day, but I’ll be broke after I buy this photography equipment.) I’m embarrassed about it to say the least, and I feel highly apologetic to all the companies I emailed regarding sponsorship.
The Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 lens has no plastic elements
This wasn’t a typing mistake. A lot of modern lenses do have plastic lens elements. There’s a million and one ways to make a lens element e.g. a method similar to injection mould, ground glass, etc. With Zeiss’s premium lenses, they tend to use more expensive elements and many of them contain lead which adds to the weight. I’ve been playing with Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Photoshop, Image Data Converter (made by Sony), and JPGs from my Sony a7rII. I notice that by default, the colours from a RAW look vastly different to the JPGs out of camera. I know most people frown upon JPG shooting (myself included) but I somewhat prefer the colours; they look more natural.
